Nothing to fault.

The location is amazing. Lots of walks on your doorstep. The staff were very helpful. We ate breakfast and evening meal at Langdale and both were very tasty and good value for money. The kids ate free.
The decor inside is tired. However it would cost a huge amount of money to do up and then wouldn't become a budget holiday.

The pictures on the internet make another impression of the hostel. It looks really creepy from the pictures but in reality is not. You should change those pictures because the Hostel is much better than it looks on the Internet

The staff at Langdale were exceptional. They really couldn't have been more helpful and were very knowledgeable about the local area. The hostel was in a beautiful location. We didn't have a car but it was fine. There was a fantastic pub about 20 minutes walk away downhill, The Brittania Inn at Elterwater, that serves really great food most of the day (not between 5&6) so all our journeys on foot either started or finished there. The hostel has a self catering kitchen that was very well equipped or you could order breakfast or dinner in advance. There are plenty of walks that can be done directly from the hostel that can be as light or as hard as you want. You can also get buses from Elterwater to Ambleside and Dungeon Ghyll but you need a timetable to plan your connections. It cost £15 for a family day ticket which will let you travel to Coniston, Windermere etc. It costs £20 in a taxi from Windermere station to get to yha Langdale to give you an idea. We coped perfectly well without a car.

We had a fantastic stay at Yha Langdale! The staff were incredibly caring and accommodating, allowing us to sleep during the day after a late arrival in our car. The facilities were great, especially the communal kitchen and the option to purchase snacks and drinks. Our dog even received a tasty doggy bag! The hostel was unbelievably clean, creating a comfortable environment for everyone. Despite the rain, we could see that there were plenty of outdoor activities available. we highly recommend staying at Yha Langdale for a memorable and enjoyable experience.

I loved the atmosphere of 'faded gentility' - the easy going charm, the friendly families from all parts of the world and the laughter of children. Great to sit in the atmospheric 'Great Hall' (which turned out to be quite small!) with a coffee in the evening and watch the bats flying in the woodland from our dormitory window. Dont come here if your looking for Grade 1 accommodation or gold taps.
One thing I thought could have been easily remedied was to get more cheap carpet fitted in the middle hall near the dining room which had very large off -putting stains where (presumably) the roof had leaked at some point.

The building is beautiful.
Not many showers for a full place. At least the female ones. Queues in the mornings. Not many plugs to charge your phone/netbook in rooms.

30 years later, it was a trip down memory lane for me at Yha Langdale. the staff were pleasant and the showers and bathroom facilities were more than adequate. I enjoyed a delicious evening meal upon arrival and had a great time relaxing at the picnic tables with a beverage. the grounds and building may not have looked as pristine as in the photos, but the access to fantastic walks in the area made up for it. the beds were comfortable and the breakfast was brilliant and amazing value for money. Cons: Can't fault anything about it! 😊.

The location was absolutely fantastic. The Youth Hostel was a large, interesting building, with comfortable, clean bedrooms. And breakfast was delicious and very generous. Staff was nice and friendly. Great that there was a bar too! We will definitely return to Langdale Youth Hostel.
I would say the toilets / sink rooms but then again it is a long time since I stayed in a youth hostel so I cannot compare.

The staff there were very friendly and helpful
It's really too far away to go there on foot(too far from the bus stop). If you are travelling by car, it should be a good choice!
